Biografia

Gregorio Andria was born in Massafra, Apulia, Italy, on April 26th, 1956. He obtained his diploma in 1975 at the Liceo Scientifico Statale "D. De Ruggieri" in Massafra, vote 60/60. On April 11th, 1981 he graduated with honors in Electrical Engineering from the State University of Bari, Italy, with the thesis "Stability of asynchronous motors powered at variable frequency", supervisors Profs. Antonio Dell’Aquila, Francesco Torelli, Michele Brucoli.
In 1981 he joined the Department of Electrical and Electronics of the Polytechnic of Bari, collaborating in research works within the local research groups CNR "Electrical and Electronic Measurement" and “Power Systems”.
In 1983 he won the competition for the first cycle of the PhD in Electrical Engineering at the University of Bari, undertaking a research in the field of measurements on distorted power systems. Next, in 1987 in Rome, Italy, he received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering for Power Systems from the Italian Ministry of University and Research, with the thesis “New methodologies for measurement and reduction of harmonic contents in electric power systems”, supervisors Profs. Mario Savino and Francesco Torelli.
In 1987, he was engaged at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (DEE) of Polytechnic of Bari as a Research Assistant for the needs of Laboratory of "Measurements on Machines and Electrical Systems". Since 1996 Gregorio Andria collaborates with the Electrical and Electronic Measurements Group of DEI, both on scientific and educational activities, firstly as Assistant Professor (1996-1998), then as Associate Professor (1998-2001) and finally as Full Professor (2001 until today), always in the same scientific sector ING-INF/07, with several teaching assignments in the Bachelor/Master/PhD's Degree at the sites of Bari and Taranto.

From 2012 until today, he has been President of the Interdepartmental Center "Magna Grecia", Taranto, whose members are the Depts. of Politecnico di Bari.
He was Auditor and member of the editorial board of international journals IEEE Trans. on Instrumentation & Measurement, Measurement Elsevier Journal, Elsevier Signal Processing Journal, The European Physical Journal - Applied Physics.
Prof. Andria has served also as Chairman in several international scientific conference organized by the IMEKO and the IEEE Society in the field of the processing of measurement data and electronic instrumentation. He was also Director of the PhD School - Excellence Seminar "Italo Gorini" in the 2012-2014 period, and Member of the Board of Professors of the PhD in Electrical and Information Engineering of the Polytechnic of Bari.
Prof. Gregorio Andria has played since 1988 as a lecturer teaching as a full professor for a lot of engineering courses, like "MEASURING ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENTATION", "MEASURES AND ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENTATION", "FOUNDATIONS OF MEASUREMENT AND METROLOGY", "SENSORS AND TRANSDUCERS", "RELIABILITY AND QUALITY CONTROL'", "ELECTRICAL MEASURES".
Gregorio Andria contributed to different organizing activities for international conferences and meetings, and also contributes to the scientific community as reviewer for different international journals. He was part of the Steering Committee of the Int. Symp. IEEE MeMeA (Medical Measurements and Applications), from 2011 until today. Moreover, he was: i) General Chair of the International Conferences IEEE-VECIMS 2007 and MeMeA 2011; ii) Director of PhD Summer School “Italo Gorini” in the period 2012-2014 (he served as General Chair in the editions 2012 and 2014; iii) General Chair in the national conference GMEE 2012.
His main research interests deal with electrical and electronic measurements, regarding the study, design and development of new sensors and instrumentation, for scientific and also industrial applications. Particularly, he concentrated his research attention in the following topics: Intelligent electronic instrumentation for measurements of components and systems; Analysis and measurement of deformed electrical quantities, in stationary and/or transient conditions; Methods of measurement for the identification of models and for the determination of parameters and characteristics of machines, equipment, apparatus, electric drives, also in avionic applications; Measurement of non-electrical physical quantities through electronic and electro-optical newly developed sensors; Environmental and Remote Sensing Measurements; Reliability of Measurement and benefits in the statistical quality control devices; Measurements and electronic instrumentation in the biomedical field. For each subject mentioned above, Gregorio Andria provided different original contributions, which lead to more than 250 papers published in international journals or conference proceedings.
